Marx & Zavattero

Established in 2001 as Heather Marx Gallery, Marx & Zavattero exhibits the work of contemporary emerging and mid-career artists who work in a range of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and photography. The gallery mounts up to eight solo and curated group exhibitions annually, occasionally incorporating outside writers, curators, and collectors in order to encourage a stimulating and fresh dialogue on contemporary art. In addition, gallery artists are often invited to collaborate with outside institutions on group and solo exhibitions.

The gallery is committed to fostering solid relationships with museum and private curators, other contemporary galleries, established and emerging collectors, and the art press in an effort to promote and develop gallery artists worldwide. Our participation in national and international contemporary art fairs each year is a major facet of this commitment.

Previous Exhibitions

In addition to mounting several one-person shows featuring gallery artists, we have curated attention-grabbing and well-received group exhibitions. Such shows have included "Flair", a survey of contemporary abstraction, featuring Stephen Giannetti, Tim Bavington, Yek, Alex Blau, and Terry Haggerty; "California Dreamin’", an exhibition that deconstructed this fabled phrase in which Libby Black, Michael Arcega, and Lee Walton created site-specific works incorporating installation, drawing, and video; "Beautiful Debris", which featured Cristina Lei Rodriguez, Tara Giannini, and David Hevel, all of whose work is defined by a baroque effusion of form and extravagance; "Naughty", featuring Keith Boadwee, James Gobel, Thorina Rose, and Ken Weaver, in which the artists defied convention and created their own ideal worlds where sexual, political, and lifestyle preferences are given free reign; and "Ominous Atmosphere", featuring Bradley Castellanos, Jeanette Chávez, Christoph Draeger, Al Farrow, Anthony Goicolea, Susan Graham, Jill Greenberg, Antonios Kosmadakis, and Trevor Paglen, whose works reference a psyche of fear — whether politi...
