Gallery Nine By Five

Gallery Nine by Five is one of Fremantle's newest galleries. Situated opposite the train station and on the corner of Market Street and Elder Place it occupies a prime location at the gateway to the city.

The gallery takes its name from the defining exhibition of the Heidelberg School. Rather than influencing the choice of artwork exhibited at the gallery, the work of legendary artists such as Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton serves to set a precedent for excellence and an unforced enjoyment of the medium.

Current Exhibitions

The coming exhibition of Savchenko's works on paper, again justifies this artist's considerable reputation in Europe and America. Gallery Nine By Five has great pleasure in showing this unquestionably magnificent collection which must be seen by any serious collector, or lover of fine significant art.

It is hard to find anyone quite like Savchenko. The energy and exhilaration which characterises his paintings, at first seems to echo Willem de Kooning, but there is also a distinctive iconic potency in his work which points beyond the image. Even if this artist does not interpret his work in any religious terms, it is hard to escape the feeling that, at least in his portraits, there is something of George Roualt ‘s earnest simplicity behind them.

This show of works on paper includes a collection of ‘drypoints' . Artists like Savchenko thrive on the untameable character of this medium, and each of the works shown, are lyrical and profound, without the slight... [ Read all ]

The First Annual 9 by 5 Exhibition

Gallery Nine by Five Fremantle marks the anniversary of its opening with an exhibition of paintings nine inches by five. Those familiar with the great Nine by Five impressionist exhibition of August 1889 will probably note that the Fremantle show, falling in the middle of July is just a little early; but then it is probably near enough for all but the most picky.

There are already enthusiastic buyers waiting for this event! After all it is accessible art of a high standard, with the added bonus of being easy on wall-space. If you don't believe that the quality of art is necessarily measured in acres, then this is the exhibition for you.

In addition to the artists normally represented by the gallery, there are a number of distinguished guests contributing to the show......
