Pavilion

Pavilion is a visual arts commissioning agency that collaborates with artists and audiences to make exceptional new works of art, using photography and digital lens based media.

Pavilion invests in the talent of emerging photographers. It does this through; commissions, exhibitions and portfolio review sessions. Pavilion also supports emerging artists into the art market through its print sales initiative.

Current Exhibitions

Jo Longhurst: Twelve dogs, twelve bitches
12 September - 21 November 2008

Over several years Jo Longhurst worked with British Whippet breeders, including several renowned Yorkshire kennels, photographing their dogs by bloodline, exploring their obsessive quest for the perfect dog. Twelve dogs, twelve bitches is the establishing piece of an extensive body of work, The Refusal, which foregrounds the intimate relationship between human and animal.

This exhibition at the National Media Museum features five new bodies of work by photographers: Peter Ainsworth, Tess Hurrell, Jo Longhurst, Moira Lovell and Kevin Newark. The projects explore extraordinarily varied subjects, and demonstrate the range of exciting talent working in the UK today.

The work produced for this exhibition has been commissioned by Pavilion as part of the Pavilion Commissions Programme 2008. The exhibition is curated in partnership with the National Media Museum, Bradford.

This series explores the photograph both as a piece of empirical evidence and as an art object on a gallery wall. The work engages in a dialogue surrounding the nature of human intervention within the landscape and perceptions of art works viewed in a gallery context.

Peter Ainsworth: A Stuffed Bird Found on a bank of the Thames at Crayford Ness

Visual arts commissioning agency Pavilion is delighted to present A Stuffed Bird Found on a bank of the Thames at Crayford Nest a series of photographic work by Peter Ainsworth.

Peter worked with gallery professionals in the production of A stuffed bird found on a bank o f the Thames at Crayford Ness, asking each to perform within the landscape as if they were in a gallery space, treating detritus as works of art.

In the series the technicians are depicted mapping an object, documenting it so that it could be re-installed within a gallery space, carefully wrapping the object for transportation.

Location And Getting There

The gallery is open Monday - Friday 12.00 - 5.00pm and by appointment.

Access
Pavilion is located on the ground floor and is fully accessible for wheelchair users. A car park is situated to the front of the Round Foundry Media Centre and includes disabled parking bays, as well as CCTV security.

Directions
Pavilion is approximately one mile from Leeds city centre, five to ten minutes\\\' walk from Leeds train station. A taxi from Leeds city centre costs approximately £4.00.
