Artists Represented

Hear Us Out
By Artist Wu Qiong

Sunjin Galleries is pleased to announce the second solo show of Chinese born artist Wu Qiong. Having achieved great success and recognition from his first show, also held by Sunjin Galleries, this young talent has now taken his work to another level, which is sure to please viewers and collectors alike.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chinese born Wu Qiong has already made a name for himself in Singapore with his delightful imagery of an idealised childhood. He set out to represent the childhood that he and many others of his generation remembered and in doing so created some of the most touching and amusing portraits of childhood to have come out of China for generations.

“Batman Forever”
Exhibition runs from 19March thru 9April 2009

Sunjin Galleries host Ketut Teja Astawa’s first solo exhibition in Singapore. Astawa is a promising young generation Indonesian painter working in the style of the Balinese mainstream figurative art. Previous collaborations with the artist have been well received, the last one being the 11th Beijing International Art Exposition in 2008.
‘Batman Forever’ exhibition chronicles the artist’s fascination with globalization and social cultural issues which Astawa delves between a reaffirmation and cultural reconstruction of his Indonesian descent. Batman is the central figure on his canvas. In his world, American folk heroes dominate over the heroes of puppet show and the gods of the Balinese pantheon. Add on to this league the heroes and villains of Indonesian politics, we all know what Astawa perceive in thoughts. One feels in these paintings the shaping presence of modern media and the artist consistent dejected skepticalism. These works will serve to alter preconceived notions of Balinese art and arrest your attention.
