Bluebottle Art Gallery And Store

Bluebottle Art Gallery and Store is an art gallery and boutique located in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, Washington. In business since 2002, it is owned and operated by husband and wife duo Andrea and Matthew Porter.

We exhibit and sell artwork and handmade functional works from local and national up-and-coming artists, designers and crafters. Our boutique section features items created in the do-it-yourself (DIY) style which are often one-of-a-kind pieces, or produced as limited edition runs. We showcase work that is innovative and well-crafted. Our goal is to support a network of artists and provide an opportunity for customers to purchase pieces that are unique and exclusive! We feature paintings, prints, plushies, t-shirts, magnets, journals, cards, calendars, wallets, jewelry, drink coasters, pins, bags, and anything else created by crafty artists.

Our gallery exhibitions rotate each month. Artist receptions are held the first Saturday of each month from 6–8pm. We specialize in showcasing amazing and affordable artwork to a market that is just starting to collect work. We also feature p... [ Read all ]

Suzanne Kaufman and Karin Yamagiwa Madan have enormous imaginations. They have developed a series of highly stylized characters, anthropomorphized animals and food particles with bizarre habits that represent both the sweet and dark misfit in all of us. Paintings on wood, canvas, and paper in two and three dimensions explore themes of innocence, loss, love, kinship and alienation.

Kaufman’s works are soft with a muted palate while Yamagiwa Madan incorporates bold lines and solid colors to shape the contours of her figures. Together, their characters create a harmonious balance. They are cute and non-threatening, but at the same time, possess an adult sophistication. In this show their characters seem to go looking’ for love in all the wrong places!
