Gallery/Dealer Details - Alex McCulloch
A once abandoned car park, McCulloch Gallery has risen to take its place among the laneways of Melbourne and the Art Galleries of the City.
Framed by the work of some of Melbourne’s best street artists, the laneway entrance holds a clue to what you will discover as you wander towards the Gallery. A vital splash of colour seeps out onto the concrete strip, as this blank canvas is transformed every three weeks into a feast of art in different media.
Dedicated to the support of emerging young artists, Director Alex McCulloch curates shows of all descriptions, from photography to painting, sculpture to street art face offs. The constant shifting of theme and talent gives the Gallery its unique and energetic vibe. On any given Friday artists, viewers and buyers alike can be found drinking in the sight…and wine… to the tune of exuberant conversation.
Yet there is a serious side to the Gallery, as you will discover when entering the stockroom, where rare works by Howard Arkley, John Perceval, David Larwill, Tim Storrier, Robert Jacks and John Olsen are hung. Here you can be treated to the expertise of the Director as he takes you through a myriad of works detailing the perfect investment opportunity.
McCulloch Gallery will introduce you to some of the country’s new and upcoming artists such as Ben Sheers and Josef Marzi, both Metro 5 prize finalists. If you are interested in the opportunity of viewing and discussing investment art, then make McCulloch Gallery your first port of call. Whether it’s a Friday night opening or a lazy lunch time visit, you will always get what you came for…and more.
