artSPACE durban(aSd) is located in a warehouse close to the Durban city centre. aSd exhibits work by emerging as well as established artists.

artSPACE durban offers a contemporary visual arts gallery adjacent to and in collaboration with dedicated artists’ studio spaces. artSPACE durban offers a professional artists agency function focusing on networking. artSPACE durban offers exhibition space, marketing and sales, promotion and venue hire facilities to contemporary artists and those interested in the arts.

artSPACE durban exhibits work of emerging and established artists and provides a space for artists to converge and interact with one another. aSd encourages the public to view the exhibitions to help open up a dialogue between them and the artistic community. aSd has open evenings during the exhibitions where people can meet the artist(s) and relax in the company of others.

Artwork by emerging, as well as established, artists is exhibited in the gallery, which consists of 3 different areas: the Main, Middle and Front Room galleries. artSPACE durban exhibits a variety of art media from paintings to installation works. The gallery caters to all tastes and is also an educational tool in giving the public access to the variety of art being produced by a wide range of artists. There is also a seating area where one can sit, relax, and read about art.

artSPACE durban is centrally located with plenty of public transport available, as well as parking. A small shopping centre and a public swimming pool are within walking distance.

Since its inception in 2003, artSPACE durban has had well over 150 group and solo exhibitions of emerging as well as established artists. artSPACE durban is the local collection point for the past 7 years and again for the upcoming ABSA L’Atelier Art Award (March 2013) and Sasol New Signatures Competition (July 2013) including an information workshop. artSPACE durban hosted a workshop for the PPC Cement Young Concrete Sculptor Award in 2008 and again in 2010.

In 2007 artSPACE durban opened a sister gallery called artSPACE berlin and was located in Berlin Mitte in Germany. We provide a platform for contemporary African artists to exhibit their work in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. The gallery closed at the end of October 2010 due to the illness of the owner.

In May 2010 artSPACE durban opened an initiative for younger/emerging artists called the COLLECTIVE, which is also located in Durban.
