Gallery/Dealer Details - Gallery Seven Art Limited

Founded in December 2008 by Aparajita Jain, Seven Art Limited is a prolific young gallery based in the heart of New Delhi. In the span of just over two years Seven Art has developed a concise program of dynamic young artists from Delhi and beyond, carving out a niche for itself as one of India’s most cutting edge spaces for art and discourse. Seven Art’s initiative is fueled by the drive to support and promote fresh and promising young artists working in a variety of media and practices, daring to support unconventional forms both within the gallery walls and without. Seven Art articulates it’s profile as a platform for artists whose aesthetic and conceptual language is international on the one hand while also specifically rooted in the history and context of SE Asia on the other. Straddling topics of both global and local significance, the artists presented by Seven Art are perfectly poised to engage in meaningful dialogue with the world today as part of the generation of artists who are redefining art in India for the 21st Century.

Despite being a young gallery, Seven Art has participated in several international events such as the first ever exhibition of contemporary Indian art at the MoCA, Shanghai, bringing both younger and more established artists to the show. The gallery also supported a contingent of artists and young designers participating in the Lisbon Biennale in September of 2009, making an exploratory foray into the arena of contemporary Indian design. Seven Art has also partnered with several international galleries to present a selection of our artists outside of the gallery walls both in India and abroad. 2009 saw a collaboration with the New York-based Thomas Erben Gallery at the Travancore House institutional space in Delhi in August 2009, running parallel to the 2nd India Art Summit fair event. In December 2010 through January 2011 we are presenting a show with Nature Morte Berlin, at the gallery’s Berlin space, where a selection of works from our last season of programming is shown under the title of “What Rules? After First Showing,” curated by curator and writer Deeksha Nath who has also organized several shows for our Delhi space.

Seven Art’s vision is to promote the ingenious young minds of India and the SE Asian sub-continent whose talent and energy is limitless but whose exposure, however, has been highly under-developed. We look to find artists who reflect an intellect and the ability to express themselves through their work such that it engages an audience to have a dialogue with ideas and with the work itself.
