Gallery/Dealer Details - Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai
Sakshi Gallery was set up in 1984 and later it was decided to widen its business as early as 1989 by merging into Synergy Art Foundation Ltd. At a time when most art businesses in India were family run and subsidized, Sakshi was a professional endeavor that was run on commercial lines under a corporate umbrella.
Sakshi Gallery was the first multi-location gallery in India with galleries in Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai. Ten years ago it was consolidated under one roof in Mumbai; all of 10,000 sq.ft., making it the largest private gallery in the country. It is now located downtown in what is fast becoming Mumbai's "art district".
Over the last 17 years, Sakshi Gallery has held exhibitions world over: in Berlin, Hong Kong, New York, London, Singapore etc and also within India in Delhi, Baroda, Calcutta, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.
Sakshi Gallery has debuted many young artists and has, in equal measure, enjoyed the support of some of India’s leading and senior artists like M.F. Husain, Ram Kumar, F.N. Souza, K.G.Subramanyan, Nalini Malani, Akbar Padamsee, Jehangir Sabavala, Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh, Navjot, Jogen Chowdhury & others.
The gallery has an art advisory section, an art lending library for corporate houses and undertakes large public commissions besides supporting students and young artists with scholarships.
With its ‘best practices’ Sakshi has always been the choice for collectors and discriminating buyers – whether it is in the selection of art and artists or cataloging of shows. Today the name is synonymous with quality, trust and efficiency.
