Gallery/Dealer Details - Galeria Thomas Cohn
The gallery was founded in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro, by two former art collectors: Thomas and Myriam Cohn. From the beginning, the gallery intended to show the new and unexpected - either by launching careers of young talents or by giving non-Brazilian artists the opportunity to have an exhibition in our country.
Throughout the years, the gallery had significant exhibitions. In the 1980’s, Tony Cragg (and six times after that), Diane Arbus, Donald Baechler, Art Povera, the New Expressionists and Peter Schuyff were presented to the Latin American market. In the 90’s, the exchange with other Latin-American countries was intensified, showing (among many others) the Argentinians Guillermo Kuitca (3 times), Manuel Esnoz, and Julián Trigo, Priscilla Monge from Costa Rica, Cuban José Bedia, Diego Piriz (Uruguay) and Carlos Vargas Pons (Mexico).
In 1997, the gallery was transfered to São Paulo, where it occupies a two storey, 5500 sq.ft. space in which two separate shows can take place simultaneously. GALERIA THOMAS COHN maintains the policy of mixing exhibitions by unexperienced and established artists, chosen by the originality and quality of their work.
