Mark Adlington, Christian Furr, Howard Morgan and Simon Palmer.
Exhibition at The Crown Hotel, Harrogate
November 30-December 9 2007

Crispian Riley-Smith is pleased to announce his first forthcoming exhibition of contemporary artists. In the centre of Harrogate, in the antique quarter, at the Crown Hotel there will be an exciting exhibition of four contemporary masters: Mark Adlington, Christian Furr, Howard Morgan and Simon Palmer.

Crispian Riley-Smith is well known in the art market for dealing in Old Master Drawings, and has been responsible for organising Master Drawings London and Master Drawings New York. Since moving to Yorkshire a year ago he has been looking for an opportunity to start a new venture in the active art market in Yorkshire. He has selected these four artists, who are well known and respected artists, and have significant followers.

Mark Adlington is an outstanding draughtsman of wildlife. His subjects range from cattle to otters, wolves and birds of prey. Born in 1965 Mark spent some of his childhood in Yorkshire near Harrogate. After training at City and Guilds School of Art, London, he currently works from his studio in London and South of France. Included in the exhibition will be a large body of his work from pastels to oils.

Christian Furr, born 1966, is the youngest artist to have officially painted the HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1995. The exhibition will include a loan portrait of Gered Mankowitz, the famous musical photographer from the 1960s. A selection of Christian’s new work will be on exhibition, including The Fall Off, a work that is inspired by the work of David Hockney and Edward Hopper.

Howard Morgan, born 1949, is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, is a brilliant portrait and figurative painter. His work is inspired by John Singer Sargent, and ranges from traditional portraiture to conversation pieces.

Simon Palmer, born 1956, is an artist who was born in Yorkshire and has spent most of his life in the county. His subject matter is inspired by his surroundings. His jewel like landscapes have been inspired by Sir Stanley Spencer and Simon’s detailed style is reminiscent of Spencer. Palmer has had two recent events at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate, one was a solo show another was ‘Palmer’s Choice’.

The exhibition will present four very different, but highly regarded, artists with works ranging in price from £300 pounds to £30,000.
