Peter Ainsworth: A Stuffed Bird Found on a bank of the Thames at Crayford Ness

4 December 2008 – 12 February 2009

Visual arts commissioning agency Pavilion is delighted to present A Stuffed Bird Found on a bank of the Thames at Crayford Nest a series of photographic work by Peter Ainsworth.

Peter worked with gallery professionals in the production of A stuffed bird found on a bank o f the Thames at Crayford Ness, asking each to perform within the landscape as if they were in a gallery space, treating detritus as works of art.

In the series the technicians are depicted mapping an object, documenting it so that it could be re-installed within a gallery space, carefully wrapping the object for transportation.

A stuffed bird found on a bank of the Thames at Crayford Ness explores the photograph both as a piece of empirical evidence and as an object on a gallery wall. The work engages in a dialogue surrounding the nature of human intervention within the landscape and perceptions of art works viewed in a gallery context.

In 2008, Peter was one of five artists awarded a Pavilion Commission. His new work Spring and Summer Angel Road (A406), developed in collaboration with Pavilion, represents an engagement with the peripheral and ephemeral within urban edge space. This series is currently on show as part of New Works: Pavilion Commissions 2008, a group exhibition at the National Media Museum until 25 January 2009.

In 2004 Peter was a finalist in the prestigious London photographic awards. In 2007 he was awarded an MA with distinction at the London College of Communication. Peter is currently exhibiting at the Royal Standard Gallery, Liverpool as part of the Liverpool Biennial.
