The Message in Painting
Although Tomáš Tichý achieved his Master’s Degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2011 as a restorer, part of his Diploma Thesis was represented by several exceptionally distinctive artworks of his own creation. In these, he blended the melancholy of the light-based poetic vision of painting with a critical perspective on some of the problematic aspects of our technological civilization.

04 .10. - 25.10.2012
“YICCA” is an ambitious project regarding transparency and the comparison and research of new artistic talents. Nowadays it is becoming more and more difficult to comply with the requirements of the art market, in particular due to the challenge of competing with the constantly-increasing number of newly-arising artists in the field of contemporary art.
he artists were chosen by an international jury, selected from among art journalists, critics and artists; all are internationally renowned.

13 .09. - 30.09.2012
Samuel Paučo is interested in what can be called “visuality”. In his interpretation, this term contains a list of attributes that express the elements of a painting’s matter, such as paint, canvas, paintbrush or brushstroke, as well as aspects capturing the character of its functions. It is the acceptance of this functional interpretation of the term “painting” that sets up solid borders for Paučo’s free creative play.

10 .08. - 02.09.2012
Curators: Petr Hájek, Pavel Kubesa

This exhibition, entitled “Thesis 2012”, is the follow-up to a long-term exhibition cycle, the strategy of which is the selective presentation of works by students or graduates of Czech art studios, which form part of the final exams or dissertations (“Best of Final Exams” – 2010, “Thesis 2011” – 2011). The exhibition will present authors – graduates from Czech art universities – in one of their turning points of their artistic careers, when they are leaving the academic environment and their creation gains the context of independent artwork.
Represented artists:
Academy of Fine Arts in Prague: Tadeáš Kotrba, Jakub Tomáš, Josefína Jonášová, Pavel Příkaský, Jiří Lauterkranc, Tereza Eisnerová Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology: Kateřina Pěkná, Barbora Chlastáková, Jan Pražan, Martin Vrága, Aneta Valentová Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Ostrava: Milan Hajdík, Filip Holeček, Kateřina Sudolská

27 .06. - 05.08.2012
Curator: Petr Hájek

The selection of the exhibited works is mainly trying to show the shift in the author’s expression during the first year after his graduation from the Academy. While the solid romantic base – the author’s classical weapon – remains, there is an apparent continuing shift towards symbolism, which leads even to abstraction (although “němec-esque” at first sight), something that no one would have expected from Tomáš Němec a few days ago.

23 .05. - 24.06.2012
Václav Misař, a graduate of Jiří Sopko’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, “constructs” his paintings in a way that strives to create a visual artistic whole – he dramatises the inner depicting conventions of painting, appealing to our experience, attention and imagination and thus strongly tugging at our sensory perception.
