TEN PLUS TEN: REVISITING PATTERN & DECORATION

Artists: Miriam Schapiro, Tony Robbin, Robert R. Zakanitch, Jane Kaufman, Robert Kushner, Joyce Kozloff, Brad Davis, Ned Smyth, Valerie Jaudon, and Kim MacConnel

November 21, 2006 - February 2, 2007
Reception: December 1, 2006 7-9pm

Ten artists from the Pattern and Decoration (P&D) Movement of the 1970s are featured in this exhibition that explores the roots of an important period in American art. The ten artists will each be represented by a major work from the 1970s or 80s, plus a newer work.

Recently painterly, decorative work has received more positive attention. There is a new appreciation of the handmade, sensual object, and inquiry is now turning to the cognitive effects of pattern and beauty. The exhibition offers a range of style, from geometric shape and hard line to swirling gesture and sensual textures.
