FERNANDEZ, Alejo (¿ h. 1475 - Sevilla, 1545) Around 1508 Considered to have introduced the Renaissance spirit into Sevillian painting. Of possible Germanic origin, his presence in Spain is documented at the end of the 15th century in Córdoba, where he married and took on his wife's surname. In 1508, he became established in Seville and soon began to work for important clients such as the Chapter of the Cathedral. Flemish and Italian influences are fused in his style, a quality which can clearly be seen in the only work by this author held by the museum, this beautiful board depicting La Anunciación (the Annunciation).
