The prolonged and loving relationship that existed between the painter Cruz Herrera and his home town led to the idea, during the last years of his life, of creating a museum in Linea de la Concepción in which to house the 100 or so works donated by Herrera to the people.
The painter himself, who died before being able to see the project completed, chose the works to be exhibited within the museum. Nevertheless, his children completed the project with an additional donation of works from the family collection.
The museum is located in the town’s Casa de la Cultura within the central Plaza de Fariñas. It was officially inaugurated on the 6th April 1975 in an event attended by national and regional authorities as well as family, friends and admirers of the painter.
The museum was restructured in the spring of 1981 when special attention was paid to the care and distribution of the works.
