Bibliothèque Inguimbertine And Museums Of Carpentras

The biblioteque Inguimbertine and the museums of Carpentras form a single cultural institution, founded in 1745 by Dom Malachie d’Inguimbert, bishop of Carpentras. The origins of the library and museum collections are the same : this ensemble of manuscripts, monies, medals and paintings were assembled by d’Inguimbert in the 26 years he spent in Italy, and brought to Carpentras in 1735 at the time of his nomination.

Donations augmented the collection during the 19th and 20th centuries, and the collection today comprises the library, the fine arts (musée Duplessis), the decorative arts (musée Sobirats), traditions (musée Comtadin), and archaeology (musée Lapidaire).
