Círculo De Bellas Artes De Madrid

The Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid (CBA) is a private, non-profit cultural organisation. Since its creation it has undertaken important work internationally in the fields of cultural creation and promotion. The CBA, one of Europe’s most important private cultural centres, is characterised by its openness towards the most outstanding and innovative artistic currents. It is a multi-disciplinary centre in which activities ranging from visual arts to literature, philosophy, science and cinema are offered.

The CBA was founded in 1880 thanks to the efforts of a small group of artists. Past directors have included such culturally relevant figures as Jacinto Benavente and Carlos Arniches while the young Picasso attended painting classes here.

In 1983 the CBA underwent a profound process of renovation. It was opened up to the public and to the international cultural currents and thus began an extensive process of expansion and reorganisation.
