Casal Solleric

The Casal Solleric was inaugurated in 1985 as an exhibition and documentation centre for contemporary art. The building is a mid-18th century palace or ‘casal’ located in the centre of Palma whose last owners, the Morell family, wished to convert it into a meeting place for artists and literati.

In 1977 the town council of Palma took charge of the building with the aim of converting it into the city’s future museum of contemporary art. After carrying out reforms to the structure the building opened with 10 rooms for its permanent collection and began to hold temporary exhibitions of artists such as Sorolla, Miró, Tàpies, Pérez-Villalta, Plessi, Millares and Ráfols-Casamada, as well as photographers such as Cristina García Rodero, Toni Catany and Joel Peter Witkin.

In accordance with its interdisciplinary character, Casal Solleric has also housed collective exhibitions of design and comics as well as exhibiting the works selected for the annual photography and painting prize “Ciudad de Palma
