Centre De Cultura Contemporània De Barcelona (CCCB)

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) is a multidisciplinary institution. We organise and host activities: exhibitions, music, dance, courses, debates, lectures, city walks etc.

We are a team who supports artistic and creative experimentation. We are open to new languages; we look for new exhibition formats.

We are urban. A centre dedicated to cities and the phenomena they generate; because they have become the social, urban and cultural catalyst of our times.
We are public, the result of a consortium of the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona County Council) and the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona Municipal Council).
We are at the Casa de la Caritat. This old building, located in the Raval district, opened its doors again in February 1994.

We are one of the pieces in the cultural jigsaw puzzle of contemporary Barcelona. We are part of the city's new cultural area, together with the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), the Palau de la Virreina (exhibition centre), the Biblioteca de Catalunya (Library of Catalonia), the Universitat Ramon Llull, the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Opera House), the Centre d'art Santa Mònica (arts centre) and the Museu Marítim (Maritime Museum).

The CCCB is a public consortium founded by the Diputació de Barcelona and the Ajuntament de Barcelona with the aim of administering a multidisciplinary and thematic cultural project for cities.

Exhibitions

The CCCB’s exhibitions transmit ideas that aim to challenge the spectator's way of seeing. Free of rigid thematic constraints, the CCCB conceives exhibitions that are more than just compilations of works. We propose routes that the visitor completes, paths that fork into bold images and concepts, exercises with a clear capacity for experimentation.
With its exhibitions, the CCCB seeks projection into new spaces and to new publics, which is why some of our exhibitions then go on tour. Our aim is to participate in the cultural debate of this city and any other, shunning conformism, didacticism, clichés and market trends.
In 2003 we opened a new, smaller exhibition space for small-format shows: l'Aparador. This showcase also provides the venue for other cultural activities organised or hosted by the CCCB, and forms a natural part of the circuit.

FILM AND VIDEO
Independent and alternative productions, new genres and formats make up the CCCB's audiovisual programme. Whether they are in-house productions or collaborations with independent artists and collectives, the CCCB believes in films that venture beyond commercial circuits, experimentation with new forms and cinema as a vehicle for reflection on and commitment to social reality.
