CRAC Alsace

Situated in Altkirch, the Centre Rhénan d’Art Contemporain (CRAC Alsace) has been housed in the old school buildings of the lycée Jean Jacques Henner d’Altkirch since 1992. Just a few kilometres from Switzerland and Germany, the centre is a place of research and experimentation whose principal aim is to allow the discovery of contemporary art to the widest possible audience. Thanks to artist residencies, a program of temporary exhibitions, events and educational activities, the centre defines itself as an institution which engages in the most innovative tendencies of current artistic creation.

JULIEN BERTHIER and STEPHANE THIDET
23 September – 23 December 2007
Private view brunch 23 September at 1pm
French artists, Julien Berthier and Stéphane Thidet, are active on both the national and European art scenes. The exhibition brings together new and previous work, the majority of it created especially for this occasion. Both personal and communal, it aims to create echos but also distances between the works.
While Julien Berthier works with the absurdity of social utopia in a humorous and sometimes ironic manner, Stephane Thidet situates himself in the disenchantment towards man and his productions, constructing melancholic and mysterious fictions.
Practicing drawing, photography, video, sculpture and installation, the artists find a common interest in the dissection and reinterpretation of real objects, which they transform into hybrids, or unidentifiable, impossible objects.
