Musée Des Beaux Arts Hyacinthe Rigaud

Founded in 1820 by the prefect Villeneuve de Bargemont and installed in Perpignan’s ancient university, the museum was finally opened in 1833, on the occasion of a large donation of works from M de Capdebos to the town of Perpignan. The museum was renamed after Hyacinthe Rigaud in 1959, the year marking the portraitist’s tercentenary. The museum was transferred to the rue de l’Ange in 1979, and installed in the ancient hotel once belonging to the Marquis de Blane, and later to the Lazerme family in the 19th century.
Chagall, Cocteau and Picasso spent long periods of time within these walls at the end of the Second World War. Today, the collections presented are the result of donations and state deposits, as well as acquisitions aided by the town and region.
