Musée Des Beaux-Arts De Nantes

Built in 1893 by the architect Clément-Marie Josso and inaugurated in 1900, the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Nantes presents an architecture in the same style of the governmental buildings constructed at the turn of the century. Built around a luminous central patio, it represents one of the great successes of nineteenth century museological architecture. It presents a chronological collection spanning primitive Italian art to contemporary creation.

Permanent Collection

Composed primarily of painting, the collection has been consistently enriched since its creation, and offers a veritable history of western painting from the 13th century to the present day. The museum also aims to inform the public on art of the past, and organises artist in residence programs in which contemporary artists intervene with the museum space and external patio. Monographic exhibitions (Soulages, Flanagan, Henry Moore) take place regularly, as well as historic exhibitions presenting genres such as the Russian avant-garde, Romanticism and Surrealism.
Graphic artists such as Jean-Emile Labourer and Josef Sudek have also been presented.
