Museo Colecciones ICO

On March 28th 1996, the Fundación Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO)'s exhibition rooms were opened in Madrid as a gallery for the display of ICO's permanent collections. Colecciones ICO is the result of the interest and support shown by Fundación ICO towards contemporary Spanish art in recent years and of the selection, study and formation of all the pieces making up the three collections:
Contemporary Spanish Painting
Modern Spaninsh Sculpture and Drawing
Picassos Suite Vollard

From 1999 ICO increased its activities by initiating a series of temporary exhibitions with the aim of offering a more complete vision of national and international contemporary art. At present ICO's programme of activities also includes didactic activities, guided visits and workshops for children.

Permanent Collection

PICASSO’S SUITE VOLLARD
Suite Vollard is considered to be the most outstanding work in the history of engraving. It was created by Picasso in the period from September 1930 to June 1936. In 1937, three portraits of the dealer, Ambroise Vollard, which were produced by Picasso in that decade, were added to the 97 engravings making up the original work. The total of 100 engravings, one of the very few complete collections of this superb artist, have been the property of ICO since 1991.
Leaving to one side the three portraits of Vollard, the Suite Vollard engravings may be classified into four groups: The Sculptor's Workshop; The Minotaur; Rembrandt and The Battle of Love.
The Suite may be considered as the culmination of the relationship between Picasso and Ambroise Vollard, the renowned gallery-owner and publisher who, in 1901, held the first exhibition of a young Spanish artist already showing unmistakable signs of his genius at the early age of 20.
In this work, Picasso uses all techniques possible in engraving: dry point, burin, etching and aquatint.

MODERN SPANISH SCULPTURE WITH DRAWING
This collection provides a complementary insight into the relationship between drawing and sculpture, the path pursued by the idea until it becomes a three-dimensional object.
At the same time, it shows the evolution of Spanish sculpture throughout the twentieth century, from the aesthetic rupture of the early avant-garde movements to the present day: Manolo Hugué, Julio González, Pablo Gargallo, Pablo R. Picasso, Juan Gris, Joaquín Torres García, Alberto Sánchez, Antoni Gaudí, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Oscar Domínguez, Angel Ferrant, Eugenio Granell, Jorge Oteiza, ...+ [ Read all ]

Families

FAMILY WORKSHOPS
The exhibitions held at Museo Colecciones ICO may now be enjoyed by all the family. Convinced that one of the best ways to arouse children’s interest in contemporary art is to involve the whole family, every Saturday we organise entertaining workshops on the works of leading artists from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

At the workshops, both children and grown-ups are given the opportunity to learn a number of basic concepts which they then put into practice in the form of creative fun activities.

Information and booking (from September 5): Mirarte.
Reservations may be made from 16.00 to 20.00.

CHILDREN’S WORKSHOPS
In addition to exhibitions, Museo Colecciones ICO organises workshops for schoolchildren as a way of acquainting the younger generations with contemporary art in its various forms (painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving, architecture, design and photography). The workshops give children the opportunity to learn a number of basic concepts which they then put into practice in the form of creative fun activities.
Both the workshops and the materials used by teachers and pupils are free of charge.
