Museum Of Contemporary Art, North Miami

Since the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art's Joan Lehman Building in 1996, MOCA has earned a reputation for groundbreaking original exhibitions of emerging artists from Miami and around the work, and for its innovative presentation of contemporary artists. Located in the heart of North Miami's cultural and civic center, MOCA was designed by acclaimed architect Charles Gwathmey of Gwathmey-Siegel Associates, New YOrk with the Miami firm Gelabert-Navia. The flexible gallery walls and soaring 21-foot high barrel-vault ceiling allow for an exquisite space in which to experience art. In 2005, the Museum of Contemporary Art inaugurated MOCA at Goldman Warehouse, a new exhibition and storage space in the Wynwood Art District of Miami, donated to MOCA by Tony and Joey Goldman of Goldman Properties for use through 2009. This facility serves as a satellite branch of MOCA's Joan Lehman Building in North Miami, doubling the museums available gallery space. It features exhibition of MOCA's permanent collection and projects by emerging artists. The Museum of Contemporary Art is known for its provocative and innovative exhibitions, and for seeking a fresh approach in examining the art of our time in its relationship to a broader cultural context. MOCA maintains an active exhibition schedule, presenting 8 to 10 exhibitions annually.

Permanent Collection

MOCA's permanent collection, established in 1995, numbers over 500 works which the museum has acquired through donations or purchased with funds donated specifically for acquiring art. The permanent collection reflects significant artistic developments in contemporary art by emerging and established artist from the U.S. and abroad.
