Museum Of The Printing Arts Leipzig - Museum Für Druckkunst Leipzig

Leipzig is a city rich in the traditions of books and publishing. A further gem has been added to that tradition in the form of the Museum of the Printing Arts at Nonnenstrasse 38 in the district of Plagwitz.
The outstanding feature of this museum is that all exhibits are not presented as mute testimonies to their time, but as vivid working demonstrations of a wide range of techniques. Hands-on experimentation plays a major role, making the museum ideal as a platform for courses and workshops.
A further dimension is added by independent artists, who are invited to use the facilities for their work. And as a museum open to the public, the Museum of the Printing Arts Leipzig welcomes everyone interested in the art of printing, gives room to temporary exhibitions and provides a venue for lectures and symposia.

Membership

The cultural and educational mission of a specialized museum like this one cannot be accomplished without public support, or without the personal commitment of private individuals.

Money is not the only aspect. The increasing dominance of television, video and computer games in today's world make it essential for reading and the art of book production to be promoted and communicated to a broad-based audience. Apart from its other activities, the museum also plays an important role as a centre for source studies, its objective being to prevent the loss of original forms and essential standards now at risk due to the possibilities of digital manipulation.

You can support our work by joining the non-profit Society for Advancement of the Printing Arts, Leipzig e.V., annual membership fee €55.00 (students €16.00).
It would give us great pleasure to welcome you to our circle of friends, which includes many well-known designers, lecturers and independent artists. A membership application form is available for your convenience.

We also invite anyone living in Leipzig or nearby who has experience as a compositor or printer, or in a similar trade, and is willing to donate a few hours of their time to helping the museum, for instance by giving guided tours, to contact us. All voluntary helpers automatically receive honorary, non-fee-paying membership of the Museum Society.

We would be happy to hear from you by
e-mail , letter,
phone (+49 - 3 41 - 2 31 62-0) or
fax (+49 - 3 41 - 2 31 62-10).
