Permanent Collection

The Museum's Permanent collection covers a wide range of categories as installation, film, media, Photography, sculpture, and painting. Most of them are voluntary donations by the exhibited artists


Exhibitions

As an educational institution it encourages the understanding of foreign and local contemporary art. The museum’s curators coordinate four exhibitions annually and host touring exhibitions and those organized by guest curators. With the support of its partners, the museum has hosted major retrospectives and other exhibitions of great influence in China. Besides exhibitions, the museum hosts music performances, plays, film screenings, talks and workshops. The total number of the shows annually held at the museum could amount to 30 or so.

“Bubble”is the Key

In the series oil painting works Chinese Mythology, we can feel that the oriental aesthetics and wisdom we are familiar with are activated by Shu Yong's bright and gorgeous "bubbles". In such a different and strange realm created by bubbles, various mythological figures who had already been reduced to our daily decorations are waken up, and those mythologies are again reviewed and recognized by us.
Actually these mythologies and figures have always been the most direct image carriers of Chinese culture, wisdom and philosophy for thousands of years. The form and evolution process of these images are right the intuitive form of Chinese aesthetics and evolution process of social aesthetics. They are our precious cultural wealth. However, as impacted by western cultures, we turned a blind eye to these wealth and even forgot them. With "bubbles"he is used to and fascinated about as the medium, Shu Yong fixs and introduces this culture to current society in the way of combining performances, concepts and oil paintings. When we locate these graphics in contemporary Chinese context, we find that these Chinese ancient mythologies are just in coincidence with some status of current China, that is in years of development...+ [ Read all ]

Education

Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art Education Department makes museum a powerful learning center in contemporary society. In a new and creative approach to teach and learn in a friendly environment, Duolun MoMA organizes a wide range of programs for audiences of all ages, these programs are in English and Chinese both for foreign and local public.

We provide the public an easy access to museum exhibitions, collections and at the same time, staff expertise will hold related artists’ talk, lectures, classes in western and Chinese art history, tours for schools, adults groups, families…

All these educational programs present an idea of contemporary culture in an art world, bringing the public into the scene of contemporary art and artists in China.


Groups

Recently, a pair of interns established a museum-based Youth Art Club. These young people spent time working in the artists’ studios, where the artists acted as teachers and mentors, supervising their work production.


Students

The Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to get involved in one of the Museum’s operating departments, in order for them to understand how a museum works. Internships are available in the following departments: Academic, Curatorial, Development, and Project. Interns working under the guidance of curators or department heads assist in routine department work that ranges from special projects and research to clerical support providing students with opportunity to understand diverse roles, functions of an institutions and Chinese contemporary art.
