Southampton City Art Gallery

Southampton City Art Gallery is a public art gallery with a collection of over 3,500 works from the Renaissance to contemporary fine art.

Forthcoming exhibitions

North&South - 3rd July-2nd September 2007: A collaborative exhibtion featuring 3 northern galleries and 3 southern galleries, exploring the current issue of British identity. Also showing at the Millais Gallery and the John Hansard also in Southampton.

Please note our exhibition schedule is programmed 1-2 years in advance, for foyer shows the space is now booked until the end of 2008.

Getting there

By Foot: we are based within the Civic Centre, 5min walk form West Quay shopping centre. Entrance is located on Commercial Road, opposite Watt's Park.
Train: a 5min walk form Southampton Central station.
Car: Take M3/A33 from the North, M271/A33 from the West and M27/A3024 from the east, follow signs to the City Centre
Parking: Nearest multi-storeys arae West Park, Grosvenor Square, the Marlands and West Quay all a few minutes walk from the gallery.


Facilities

The gallery is fully accessible for all disabled visitors. Disabled toilets, baby changing unit and visitor cafe are all located within the Civic Centre. Guide dogs are welcome. First Aiders and Fire Marshalls are trained and on duty at all times. NO CLOAKROOM.

News and events

Open Exhibition: held bi-annually this show is a chance for local and amauteur artists to submit their work and for it to be displayed within the gallery.


Education

Extensive educational programme. Workshops and tours tailored to each indivual group. please contact the Gallery directly for more information.


Groups

All groups welcome. The Gallery is fully accessible for visitors who are disabled.Please book before visit.


Schools

All school groups welcome. Please book before visit.We also offer the Arts4Schools service where local schools are able to loan pieces of artwork.


Families

All families are welcome. The family Art Trolly is situated in the Main Hall, children and families are encouraged to explore the gallery with the materials provided!


Children

Variety of monthly art clubs for children aged from 3-12yrs of age. Please see the gallery website for more information. Workshops run throughout school holidays.


Students

Students of all ages are welcome - if you are studying a particular artist or painting in our collection history files are available for research. please contact the gallery directly for more information.


Adults

A full range of adult workshops and events are run throughout the year. For a full list of events please see the Gallery website. Booking is necessary for all events.
