Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf

The city museum is the oldest museum of Duesseldorf and shows in its collection the history, culture and art of the city Duesseldorf and its region.

The museum was founded in 1873 when the city accepted the collection of paintings from the estate of the count of Stutterheim.

Permanent Collection

The main emphasis of the collection is Düsseldorf in the time of the duchy Jülich Kleve Berg from the 14. to the 16. Century. Of further importance is the industrialization and cultural history of the 19. Century, the Düsseldorfer art scene during the Weimar Republic, Düsseldorf during the national socialism and Düsseldorf after 1945.

After the 2nd worldwar Joseph Beuys has given new impulses to art and the city and the museum covers this important period. Beuys lived and worked in Düsseldorf from 1947 until his death in 1986.

Facilities

Are you interested in the history and culture of the city but can't easily reach the museum by public transportation because of a handicap or a frailty ?

The STADTMUSEUM offers you since the 5th December 2006 a free-of-charge service to fetch you and two other persons of your choice to the museum and bring you home after the visit.

This Service is available Tuesday to Friday from 10.30 to 18 h. To make the reservation please call 0211. 89-9 64 95 (9 - 14 h)
Admission to the museum is free, special exhibitions cost
3 EUR / (reduced) 1.50 EUR.
