Exhibitions

September 7 - October 20
Staging the Gap
Robert Hengeveld (BC)

Robert Hengeveld recreates an outdoor concert stage at a miniature scale, animating it with light, smoke and other effects.  The effects are programmed by various electrical circuits and triggered by an inaudible CD containing the Queen track Bohemian Rhapsody – a song chosen for its ranging style and its prevalence in Karaoke culture, a culture which engages our society’s desire for the spectacle of performance. Eight audio headsets accompany the model stage, each playing very different sountracks specifically created to play back with the virtual show. The work explores the relationship between audio and the visual, and the roles they play in structuring our understanding of the world around us.

Hengeveld works hover between reality and artifice. His interest in the boundaries between fact and fiction is explored through various disciples, including installation, video, and drawing. In 2005 he completed his MFA at the University of Victoria, and has exhibited across Canada and internationally.

...It's Alright, I know my Limits...
Matilda Tristam (UK)

Matilda Tristram's animations, comics and drawings come together in a colorful and quirky show about what life is about. Love, death, war, tea, sex, balloons, bedrooms, mess, colours, babies, bosses, cars, asteroids, worms, sandwiches and paddling pools. A multicoloured contemplation of the complexities of the human condition.

Tristram is a London based artist, currently studying for an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art.+ [ Read all ]

Summer Art Camps:
July 2nd to August 3rd
Day camps run from 9 am to 4 pm
For kids ages 9 to 13
Khyber Kids are reaching out! This year’s summer camps program is A Community Based Project. The focus is on how we can interact and engage with our communities through art. Each of the five themed weeks will explore traditional and non- traditional techniques of art making in a variety of mediums. Through fieldtrips and visiting artist workshops, combined with fun and exciting activities at the Khyber, the group will make art to integrate into public space. Documentation of the camps will begin an archive that will grow with the Khyber Kids.
