Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is one of the finest collections of art ever assembled by one family and became a national museum in 1897. Today the eclectic, wondrous collection is shown in the family's former London home, a tranquil oasis just minutes from Oxford Street. Visitors will be amazed by the fantastic Old Master paintings by artists including Titian, Canaletto, Rembrandt, Hals, Velazquez, Rubens and Gainsborough. Be transported to 18th Century France, surrounded by the world's greatest selection of French 18th Century paintings, furniture and Sevres porcelain, many pieces formerly owned by royalty. The world class armoury is the second largest in Britain and contains many important European and Asian pieces. Also on display are Renaissance treasures, including maoilica, glass and paintings; sculpture; gold boxes and miniatures. This is all enhanced by the opulent setting and the ongoing programme of room restorations.

Exhibitions

Xanto: Pottery Painter, Poet, Man of the Italian Renaissance.
25 January - 15 April 2007
Free Entry
A unique opportunity to discover a great forgotten Renaissance painter in the first maoilica exhibtion to be held in Britain for 20 years. This is the first exhibition ever devoted to the Grayson Perry of his day, an intriguing artist who depicted subjects others steered away from. Due to the process involved in making maiolica, the colours appear as fresh as when they were first painted.
