Washington County Museum Of Fine Arts

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts was founded by Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Singer, Jr. and incorporated in 1929. The Museum has a long and impressive tradition of cultural leadership in the Cumberland Valley region, providing residents and visitors with access to an outstanding Permanent Collection and an active schedule of exhibitions, musical concerts, lectures, films, art classes and special events for children and adults throughout the year.


Permanent Collection

The collection of over 6,000 objects ranges from Old Masters to 20th century paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. The primary focus is on 19th century and early 20th century American Art. Selections from the holdings are always on view and rotate through the galleries. In addition, temporary exhibitions and the work of fine regional and national artists are shown throughout the year.

74th Annual Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon

For seventy-four years, the Museum has presented some of the region's best photography in the annual Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon. The juried photographic competition features work by more than fifty amateur and professional photographers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The juror for this year's exhibition was Verna Posever Curtis. Ms. Curtis is Curator of Photography with a specialty in the art photographs at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The Library's vast Prints and Photographs Collection includes over 13 million images representing an enormous array of print and photographic media and subjects. She has written books on many important photographic figures including Lewis Hine and F. Holland Day. Entrants competed for awards in the categories of landscape/architecture, still life, portrait, figure, abstract and digital effects. The Museum is pleased to announce two new cash prizes sponsored by Fuji Color Processing, Inc. - best digital effects in black and white and best digital effects in color. Museum visitors are invited to vote for their favorite photograph for the annual Popular Prize Award, sponsored by FirstLook Photo, Hagerstown.


Public School Art Exhibition

Getting there

In the middle of the beautiful Hagerstown City Park, the Museum is easily accessible from Interstates 70 and 81.


Facilities

Plenty of free parking. Building is fully accessible to those with disabilities.
