Catching the Big Fish (Late Night Version)

Year Created:2012
Medium:Oil on canvas
Image Dimensions:180 x 150 cm
Description:The name of the painting is taken from a book called 'Catching the Big Fish' by the American film director Daivd Lynch, which is about using the technique of transcendental meditation to catch big creative ideas. It was late night when I was doing sketches about the composition of the painting. I had a hard time and thought the process of it was exactly like trying to catch the big idea - the big fish. I was thinking of light and visibility when I was doing the painting, as well as dumb, stupid painterly language - the zigzag on the far right illustrates the point. I am into painting the process of painting, an illustration of painting itself.
