Work of art I would like to make

LETS HANG OUT?

I propose to use the public’s opinion to colourfully carpet the floor. I will grid the entire floor of a selected space in Velcro strips. I will write a survey question on the wall and assign a colour to each of 10 possible answers. I will then invite the public to place a coloured square segment of carpet (the colour reflecting their opinion), wherever they wish on the grid on the floor. The carpet square piles (placed on low shelves that are wall mounted so the floor is completely clear) will illustrate the survey as they decrease- a reverse bar chart. Gradually the floor will be covered in a colour field painting derived from the publics vote.

Hopefully creating a fun place to hang out, and creating a collective colour field painting.

Theory-the space will be in constant change, and reflect those who have come before. In survey subject matter as well as in aesthetics the work is about bringing people together to consider their time and social priorities. The survey needs some flushing out- but the question will be around options of spending spare time-
