I try to build spaces that intentionally disrupt preconceived assumptions of what is homely, attempting to create spatially uncanny scenarios by pulling mismatched and off-kilter surfaces together.
In my paintings I incorporate elements which seek to upset the way in which the image is read, they aim to offer a seemingly recognisable and obvious circumstance then confuse and undermine their own stability.
Like the feeling you get when you anticipate an extra step whilst walking up a flight of stairs in the dark, what was assumed to be so definite leaves you bemused and disorientated.

Work of art I would like to makeMy practice has consistently been informed by architecture, through this I have recently become excited about the material I paint on. Reflectivity within a painting seems to me an interesting concept; I was once checking my hair in the reflection of a car window and then realised someone was in there looking right back at me. I think that’s somewhere to begin. |
