My practice is an ongoing pursuit of the elusiveness of image and memory; place and identity, the familiar and foreign, including the nostalgic comforts redolent in images of the domestic and mundane. Utilising fragments of photos I seek to produce points of pictoral resolution and clarity of thought, however through the continual search for the image, the building up and subtracting of paint, a fragile tension emerges between the tangible and the obscure. The canvas becomes a place of marks some secure and laden with the potential of communication whilst others disorientate and displace the very possibility of this endeavour.

Work of art I would like to make

I wish to explore further the idea of memory, the tension between the recognizable and the unfamiliar. The use of thin washes disrupted by dense impasto, create a tension that questions our perceptive ability to recall a full memory and our capability to render this through permanence of paint.
I propose to look into an ongoing investigation into the Domestic space and British landscape and the nostalgic comforts redolent through fragments of found photography and my own memories. I wish to further my thoughts and practice through the layering of interior and exterior spaces of searching for an escape from the barriers of day to day life.
I am interested in still life, void of human figures yet every part of a still life leaves a trace of a human presence. The way in which we look back and idolise the past, removing other parts of reality from our imagination, taking you to another place.
