The Anexiety of Identity

The Anexiety of Identity
Photo Description:
The Anxiety of Identity (Combinations and Alliances) By Hannah Kenney, from Queen Anne’s School, Caversham. Materials: Acrylic Paint on Hardboard. In my AS Coursework I explored ‘Contained Emotions’- hence leading me to research expressionist artists and the use of colour to illustrate emotions. I studied artists such as Van Gog, Francis Bacon and Edvard Munch .I was most inspired by Gustave Corbet’s Self-portrait - ‘The Desperate Man’. This led me to create my final piece- ‘Contained Emotions Within’. The self-portrait illustrates my dark contained emotions. In A2 I explored new ground experimenting with photography and collage to break out into a new way of expressing feeling. I disfigured my face to show how I truly see myself, and explored colour to cause the viewer to feel.
