Growth and Decay

Growth and Decay
Photo Description:
‘Growth and Decay’ By Xu Nuo, from Queen Anne’s School, Caversham. AS Level Materials: Acrylic on heavy duty watercolour paper. This painting is done after the tour of visiting my family's heritage --- the very traditional blue brick house in China. I was inspired by the narrow path between the walls since the path will create a feeling of going across between those unique buildings. Therefore my painting will be more approachable to whoever is viewing my piece and lead them into the world that I experienced and enjoyed. This painting was done in acrylic. I used a wash technique to create an equivalent in paint to recreate the ageing process of the elements attack on the walls of the building. I dilated the dark brown colour with water and washed over the "bricks" in order to create the historical feeling (so the wall looks washed and rusted by rain and by the winds of time).
