Photo Description:
This piece was created to portray the theme "Covert & Obscured." I Decided to make a sculpture from clay as it is a solid medium which could reflefct th idea of darkness well. The surface of the sculpture has an aged colour, as I was inspired by the Cycladic Speedos sculpture from 2000 B.C. Cycladic sculpture had an intiguing texture which i added to my final piece using imprinting around the neck. I used the idea of imprisonment by sticking masking tape around the mouth to show the feeling of being trapped and broken; It looked exaggerated as well as sureal. The spillage of paint at the top of the sculpture uses a haphazzard approach indicates the thought of being exposed through force of emotions. Overall the sculpture has a distorted look, with spikes and over exaggerated features to enhance obscurity and the idea of intense isolation. This is especially magnified through the thick and bold outline of the eyes, as they have an emotionless gaze, which is connected to forbidden speech. Therefore, the only way you can break free is through your mind.
