Winter Woodland

Winter Woodland
Photo Description:
Artwork derived from a range of processes used in oil painting and a series of workshops at school and at the Oriel Davies Gallery. 'I like to encapsulate the essence of movement and energy that a surrounding produces, by painting in an unconscious state of mind. This gives me a freedom of movement and flexibility in my work. On the day on which the image was taken, it was bitterly cold and there was a breeze in the trees, I have tried to capture this cold raw atmosphere in my painting. Dark gauged scraping marks give an edgy rough outlook, this contrast with the soft colours that lie underneath. A distant pathway triggers mystery and unknown into the painting. Taking the eye on a journey through the painting, by using depth in the fore and back ground. Personally I think the colours I have used in the leaves gives the painting a feeling of being taken back in time, 19th century esque. The colours in the trees are quite muted and dull toned, to contrast this I have used bursts of colour on the ground and bark to give it a modern twist.'
