The Octopus

The Octopus
Photo Description:
I am currently studying Textiles for my AS level at Llanfyllin High School. The theme for this year’s project was Landscape, I went down the route of sea life and sea creature. After visiting Blue Planet to study their sealife, an octopus caught my eye, as it was such a beautiful creature with various colours, tones and shapes. After drawing an octopus in a variety of different mediums I created this one piece which is split into eight, such as the eight legs of an octopus. In each section I have used a different technique following a pattern of black and white and colour in a reocurring order. I did this to make the viewer look closer at the piece and admire the detail in each section of the beautiful creature. This is a start of a development to create a textiles piece on an octapus. I love all the circles on the ocatpus as they're repetitive but all different and I want to express this in my work. During my visit to Blue Planet the elegance of the octapus' movement inspired me as it looks effortless and depicts freedom and would like to bring it into my work using long strokes and free movement to convey the octapus.
