Rise & Fall

Rise & Fall
Photo Description:
To create this piece I was inspired by Christian Holstad. I experimented with taking newspaper images and using a rubber to remove the features. I explored rubbing away the layers of paper with a wet paintbrush. I worked into the images in pencil and scanned them into Photoshop to print onto acetate. I layered the images to create my own style. I found the people turned into haunting, ghostly figures. This way of working can take political images and thurn them into something far more atmospheric to tell a message. However, the message is ambiguous and open for interpretation. In this piece the politicians from one image have become fearful of the workers in the other image that are looming towards them, hence the title 'Rise & Fall'.
