Self-Preservation
Photo Description:
I began my idea for the sculpture with the attempt to relate my chosen topic (Crowds) to myself. Here, I have used crowds of materials as a means of protection from betrayal, disappointment, and unfamiliar surroundings. I have collaged the mannequin in lettering and images that would describe me, and all the various interests I have. I have then placed butterfly specimens around the body, and surrounded them with large shards of glass. This acts as a means of protecting the more delicate and vulnerable aspects of oneself. This has created a striking contrast between intricate and hazardous materials.
