Bars

Bars
Photo Description:
Acrylic on canvas 18 x 24 This painting shows a girl trapped between her own expectations and societal judgment. She looks up with desperation as she attempts to peel off the barcode that has permanently labeled her, against her wishes. The stark lines on her cheek are reflected by the jail bars around her, and the warmness of her face is dampened by the coldness around her. I wanted to show that she is isolated and confined by stereotypes. Even if she can peel away the label, representing her internal pressures, she can never escape the cold, bleakness of the jail, representing the pressures of society.
