Photo Description:
Graphite on paper This is about suffering and the inescapable nature of social pressure. On the stage of life, people are controlled largely by their society and it’s impossible for an individual to escape from this pressure. Like a marionette, if I cut the string that connects me to my society, then I would collapse, unable to stand back up. Thus this cycle that makes social pressure feel ‘inescapable’ is what I want to convey in this artwork. The tension has been created with the straight diagonal line in the artwork; the excessive doll-like beauty, string, and broken body parts helped me to build up the marionette, the representation of ourselves.
