Photo Description:
Watercolor and pen on paper It's about suffering and the inescapable nature of social pressure. Life in a highly interconnected Korean expatriate community in India gives me a clear understanding of social pressure. In such a small community, regardless of our own free will, cultural society exerts power to control our actions. This is why I am using the nightmare as a symbol in this artwork. The pale white face removes the liveliness of human and describes the suffering experience due to the social pressure. At the same time, description of nightmare in the work gives a sense of helplessness. Illusion of depth in the dream, dramatic lighting, and contrast to set apart the fragile figure on the bottom are all intended to evoke a human weakness against the social pressure.
