RES provides an exciting and innovative education for students of all abilities aged 11-18. We are a Business & Enterprise Specialist School and our students are prepared thoroughly with the skills they require for adult life.
We enjoy our setting in over forty acres with extensive playing fields. Most students stay on into our Sixth Form.
We are determined that every student should love learning and should gain from RES a commitment to excellence and to their communities. Students are taught mainly in classes selected by ability with fast track programmes for the most able and extra support for those students who need it. Students are assessed regularly to ensure that they are reaching their challenging yet realistic targets and to make sure that they are in the right classes.
We involve parents in the educational process with support groups, email communications and parental access to assessment profiles on line. We report formally on student progress three times a year but successes and any underachievement are discussed on a more frequent basis so that every child can achieve his or her best. Communication with teachers using the student planner is also encouraged. We have a well-established House system which provides pastoral care, a sense of belonging and encouragement for students to become involved in our wide range of extra-curricular activities. Brothers and sisters will join the same House so that families can build relationships with a single Pastoral Leader, the Head of House. Students will compete for House points, in House Drama, House Music or the many House sporting and other competitions. They will try to raise money for their House charities, mentor younger students in their House and build an ever stronger sense of community at RES.
In June, before students begin Year 7, every family is offered the opportunity to come into school for an interview with a senior member of staff, to establish a close relationship which we try to continue throughout the child’s time here. New students also take part in a two-day induction programme in July where they meet their Year 10 Mentors for the first time.
Our extra-curricular activities involve many trips to museums, galleries, shows, sporting events, theatres and concerts. This year students can visit France, Spain Belgium, Iceland and Italy. They can join the various school choirs and ensembles, audition for House plays, school plays and musicals and join a wide variety of sporting clubs.
We have very close links with local and National businesses who also provide our students with a wealth of learning experiences in and beyond the classroom.
Visitors to our school are impressed by the calm and purposeful atmosphere, the polite and attentive approach shown by our students and by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our teachers. You are cordially invited to visit us too.
