Horbury Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive, situated on the outskirts of Wakefield. The school was judged as Good, by Ofsted in November 2010 and we became an Academy in September 2012.
The Art department works closely with the DT department where skills and expertise can be shared. We are fortunate to have a suite of purpose built classrooms and workshops suitable for delivery of all aspect of the curriculum including developing aspects of ICT skills.
In Art, students explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. In art, craft and design, students reflect critically on their own and other people‚Äôs work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives.
