The King’s is an 11-18 comprehensive school with just over 140 staff and 1150 students (230 of which are studying for A levels in our Post 16 section). It has a long and proud history that can be traced back to a fourteenth century choir school which operated until 1545 when it was replaced by a “Grammar” school founded by King Henry VIII - hence “The King’s School”, and our coat of arms with the Lion and Wyvern. The King’s School became an academy on April 1st 2011. Although we are now independent of Local Authority control, we continue to work in close partnership with the Local Authority and our fellow secondary schools to ensure that we offer the best educational opportunities possible. Our inclusive philosophy of “Achievement for All” encapsulates our belief that every person who enters The King’s School has unique skills and potential which we have the creativity and ability to unlock.
The 2011 OfSTED inspection graded the school as OUTSTANDING, endorsing the school’s belief that its unique ethos has a hugely positive impact on student achievement.
