Culford School

Bury St Edmunds / United Kingdom

Culford School Culford is an independent boarding and day school for 700 boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18 years. It is situated in 480 acres of beautiful Suffolk parkland with a magnificent 18th century mansion at its centre. Culford’s philosophy is that education should be challenging, enriching and fun and the school believes that what goes on outside the classroom is just as important as what goes on inside it.

Culford is academically ambitious for each child and has excellent academic facilities including a modern Science Centre, a superb Studio Theatre and a newly refurbished Music School. There are also fantastic sports facilities which include a Sports and Tennis Centre housing a 25m heated indoor swimming pool, sports hall with indoor climbing wall, squash courts, fitness suite and dance studio. A magnificent championship standard 4-court Indoor Tennis Centre complements the six outdoor courts, and there are extensive grass rugby and hockey pitches, all-weather floodlit pitches and a thatched cricket pavilion with cricket square.

Culford has been judged ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED and ISI in boarding and pastoral care, and has seen boarding increase by 40% in the last seven years, resulting in a new girls’ boarding House opening its doors in September 2012. The school has further exciting plans to improve its already impressive facilities: a new gallery space has been completed in the first phase of remodelling the art department. Funded by the Foundation, the gallery was officially opened alongside an exhibition of works by students of the Royal Academy in October 2013. Plans have also been approved to build a £1.8m state-of-the-art Library which will form a new academic hub for the School.
